General questions


Do you save or read my instant messages?

We strictly follow the directives of the German law regarding privacy. Instant messages are of private nature and are not accessible by any employee of PantherMedia nor third parties. Nevertheless, we are obligated to save the messages for a certain period. The messages are not read by any person. Only in case of criminal complaints or verified references, the relevant content may be accessed. PantherMedia is, as all other companies allowing private messaging, legally bound to follow these directives.


Does PantherMedia help me to apply for accreditations?

Unfortunately, we cannot help you in this matter. PantherMedia does not assign any photographer to take images at certain events and, therefore, we cannot support these requests.


Does the membership with PantherMedia allow me to apply for a press card?

No, a memberhsip with PantherMedia alone does not qualify you for getting a press card. Additionally, PantherMedia does not assign photographers to produce images for projects. Therefore, we cannot issue written confirmations for applying for a press card.


How can I cancel my membership?

Please click on "Support - Contact" and choose the option "Cancel membership". Please add your username and the first three letters of your password.


How can I contact you if I cannot find the correct answer in the FAQ section?

Please click on "Support - Contact Form" and choose a category. Enter your question and click on send. Our system will generate a ticket and will send an automated reply including a ticket number in the subject line. Our support team will answer your question as soon as possible. If we have any further questions, please reply to this email. Please do not delete or alter the ticket number. Please keep in mind that only one incident should be handled per ticket number. 

If you do not receive an automated email or response from PantherMedia, please check your spam filter. 

Our support team takes care of all questions that are not listed in this FAQ section. However, we cannot answer any question regarding the rejection of an image. Please use the possibility to pose this question in the forum (Image Talk). We do kindly ask for your understanding.


How can I purchase licences?

Please change to the stock agency at http://www.panthermedia.net. If you choose an image, please click on the shopping cart symbol and follow the instructions in the shopping cart.


How can I upload my portrait in my user profile?

Please choose "MyPanther - My User profile". Click on the button "Click here to edit your User Profile" and you will see a mask. Please submit all necessary information and attach your portrait. Mind the required size for the image.


How many of my images have already been sold?

Please see "MyPanther - Revenue" for your individual sales report. 
Go on "Subscription sales" and "Revenue overview" and choose a period as required.


How much can I earn?

You can upload images in two different categories: Cat50 and Cat30. If you are offering your images only at PantherMedia or equally/more expensive agencies, you earn 50% commission on all sales according to the author licence agreement. If you also offer the images at cheaper stock agencies, your commission is reduced to 30%. 

How many images you sell highly depends on the quality, quantity and content of your images as well as the keywording of your images. 

Please always decide first, whether you want to offer the image via microstock companies or via higher-priced agencies.


How much is the membership for PantherMedia?

The membership is generally free of charge. You can upload as many images as you like and offer them in the stock agency. There are some restrictions if most of your images are rejected for the stock agency. Your upload will be restricted to only 2 images per day. 


Why does it sometimes take longer to answer my inquiries?

Some of the inquiries are forwarded to the IT, legal or any other department. Therefore, some inquiries take (substantially) longer than if the support consultant answers the inquiry directly.

Image upload & administration


Can I upload my images via FTP?

Yes, you create a new FTP account in your navigation at "Upload Images". Please follow the instructions to create a FTP account. The access data are sent to you via email. 

After you have uploaded the files, please edit the necessary metadata. The images are then submitted to our editors. 

Please note: Only upload images that are suitable for the stock agency. If your rejection rate exceeds 40%, we have to block your FTP account.


How do I add images to comments or forum postings?

Just put a hash sign in front of the image number


How many images may i upload via FTP? 

Your upload via FTP is restricted to 2000 images and/or 2GB. 
Before you can upload more files via FTP you have to edit the metadata and submit the images to our editors. Now you can use the upload via FTP again.


How many images may I upload?

Your upload to the stock agency is generally not restricted. If your acceptance rate is worse than 60%, we need to restrict your upload to 2 images per day.


If I get a question from the editors - how can i answer?

If you get a question to one of your images from the editor the traffic light jumps to red-green. You can answer by "edit image" > message to the editors > save!


Statistics of the last 100 pictures / Traffic light status

An example: 

If we suppose that this is the topical state of a user: 

accepted: 80 images 
rejected: 6 images 
Re-submission: 1 image 

Now the user is uploading 10 new images: 

accepted: 5 images 
rejected: 4 images 
Re-submission: 1 image 

Then this proves a whole statistics from: 

accepted: 85 images (80+5) 
rejected: 10 images (6+4) 
Re-submission: 2 images (1+1) 

However, in addition there is still an other important point to follow: only the last 100 reviewed images are considered. This entails that a photographer who has upload already more than 100 images and is uploading now new images the older reviewed are not counted anymore. 

An example (so that it is more simply to be understood, we take only the last 10 images): 

1) 15.01.2008: 1 image rejected 
2) 14.01.2008: 1 image rejected 
3) 13.01.2008: 1 image rejected 
4) 12.01.2008: 1 image rejected 
5) 11.01.2008: 1 image rejected

And now we accept, he uploads four other images on on 16.1.2008. Two of it are accepted and two are rejected. What happens now? 4 new pictures are added at the beginning of the list. However, for it 4 last pictures are removed of the list because only 10 last pictures are considered. With it the list looks thus:

2) 16.01.2008: 1 image accepted (new) 
3) 16.01.2008: 1 image rejected (new)

Now one sees: 
Although the relation was same with the new pictures (2 images accepted, 2 images rejected),the rate has got worse in the list all together: 

before: 
accepted total: 4 images (=40%) 
rejected total: 6 images (=60%) 

after: 
accepted total: 2 images (=20%) 
rejected total: 8 images (=80%) 

Why is that thus? In our example list only "good" pictures are removed. However, this can happen of course also as well the other way round. On an average compensates itself again.


There was a problem in uploading my image.

If there is a warning message on upload, one of the following reasons may have occured: 
- The file size is larger than 20 MB 
- The image size is larger than 8.000 pixel on the longest side 
- The file is not a .jpg or damaged. Please save the image again and try to upload a second time.


Why do you reject images with frames?

Images with artificial frames (added with photo editing software) are rejected because: 
- customers do not need frames 
- it takes storage space unnecessarily 
- download times are longer

Offer & sell licences


Are images deleted retrospectively from my account?

In case of following events, PantherMedia reserves the right to delete images retrospectively from the stock agency: 

- the quality of an image is insufficient 
- legal issues


Can I ask the customer directly to find out in what way he used my image?

Please note that inquiries made directly to customers about the kind of use, authors' copies etc., are damaging PantherMedia's reputation and ultimately, your business also. We have had several customer complaints resulting in discontinued sales. Many of our regular customers buy images in bulk. Imagine how you would feel after placing an order for 30 imags if you were contacted by every photographer and asked for an author's copy. The time involved and financial costs would soon prevent you from buying from PantherMedia again. 

In the area of rights-managed photography (RM) it is normal market procedure for the photographer to receive precise details on the use of an image and publications, etc. This is why these images are much more expensive. 

Contrary, in the area of royalty free photography this is NOT market standard. Our customers prefer PantherMedia because of our easy and affordable way of licencing images. 

Therefore, please never contact customers directly.


Can I offer my images via other stock agencies as well?

Yes, the image upload is non-exclusive. Please note: If you wish to offer your images via other agencies to prices less than PantherMedia's prices, you have to mark an image as Cat30, i.e. you only get 30% commission on each sale. All stock agencies which offer images for print in the size DIN A4 (290x210 mm, 300 dpi) for less than 49,90 Euros are cheaper agencies (November 2012).


Do I have to register a business when selling images via PantherMedia?

This question highly depends on the tax system in your country. Please refer to your tax consultant for further information.


Do I have to specifiy my VAT ID?

If you have registered a business and need VAT added to your remuneration, please specify your VAT within your account information and we will transfer the money with VAT. Important: Depending on your country, it might not be necessary to include VAT. Please ask our team prior to requesting your remuneration.


How do I find out about the status of acceptance of my images?

The traffic light in your "Image overview" is on green. If an image was rejected, the red traffic light is displayed.


Some images are marked "editorial tip" or "recommendation" - what is it all about?

Selected images are awarded the title "editorial tip" or "recommendation". These images are prioritized in the search results. You can see this award in your "Image overview". 

Criteria for this award are: 
- high customer usability 
- good theme / statement 
- high quality and technical realisation 
- size


What do I have to keep in mind when selling images via other agencies?

Photographers who offer images also in stock agencies with a lower price level than PantherMedia (e.g. microstock agencies) only get a reduced commission of 30%.


What rights of use are transferred when licencing an image?

The licences are explained in the End User Licence Agreement, valid from 15.04.2016:

When are my images checked and released by your team of editors?

Your images get checked as soon as possible. 

Generally, the images are checked chronologically (by upload date). 

Exceptions (prioritized): 
- Customer Image Requests 
- Images of new photographers (first 20 images) who are waiting for their acceptance to PantherMedia


Which images are released for print on canvas or poster?

Following images are released for print on canvas or poster, if these conditions are met: 
- the longest side must be at least 1.800 pixel 
- the image has been accepted in the stock agency 
- only images for commercial use 
- the special project "fineartprint.de" or "PosterXXL" is accepted


Why are images rejected for the stock agency?

Our team of editors check the images on the basis of many criteria, e.g. quality and legal issues or usability. Please see further information at http://www.panthermedia.net/index.php?page=cms/pages/display2.php&cms_id=79&blanc=on

We ask for your understanding that we cannot explain the reason for rejecting individual images, neither via email nor in the forum.


Why does the traffic light show yellow again?

If you are editing your image retrospectively, the traffic light jumps to yellow again. Consequently, our team of editors checks your image again bevor releasing it into the stock agency.


Why is my image not displayed in the stock agency yet?

Images are only displayed one week after acceptance of our team of editors (green traffic light).


Why is PantherMedia acting very strictly when it comes to legal acceptance of an image?

As a photographer, you are responsible and liable for any legal requirements. If a third party runs into legal problems, it is the photographer who is responsible for any financial implications the use of an illegal image caused. 

In order to protect the photographer and our customers, and ulitmately the brand PantherMedia, our team of editors check every image. The editors undergo an extensive legal training and get trained on a monthly basis. Nevertheless, not all questions can be answered by the editors. They therefore rely on an honest cooperation with the photographer. This service is voluntarily for your and our own security. 

Generally, we rather reject than submit an image if the legal status in uncertain.

Technical questions


How can I modify my personal information and password?

Please log in first. Click on "MyPanther - Account - Registration data/Change password" and modify your information. The username cannot be modified.


I am a new photographer, but I am not listed under "new photographer" in the community?

Only photographers are listed in "new photographers" who already uploaded images to the photocommunity. Die list is updated daily.


I have not received the registration email with my activation link?

Please check your spam filter or contact PantherMedia at http://agency.panthermedia.net/cms/contact/

Please check the spelling of your email after we have solved the problem.


I want to upload a portrait in the userprofile, but it won't show?

Make sure that the portrait has not exceeded the size 200x200 pixels or the file is not damaged. In that event, please edit the images, save it again and re-upload. 

Sometimes, your browser cached the old image. In that event, hold down the shift key and click "refresh" in your browser.


When do you update the number of ratings?

The rating per image in the image overview is updated hourly whereas the rating per image in the preview is updated live.


Why can't I log in?

Following problems may have occured: 
- you have to activate cookies 
- Please check security settings in your firewall 
- You have not activated your masterpasswort (sent by email after registration, please check spam filters) 
- password and username spelled incorrectly

How do you calculate the ranking factor?

How do you calculate the ranking of the images?

The ranking is calculated based in the number and average of the ratings per image per period.


How do you calculate the ranking of the photographers?

Following criteria are taken into account: 
- number of ratings 
- number of different photographers who have rated 
- number of ratings based on the total number of image with ratings 

The higher the ranking, the better the rank of a photographer in the top photographer lists.


Is there a link between rating in the photocommunity and display in the stock agency?

No. The rating in the photocommunity is absolutely independent from the display of the search result in the stock agency.

Comment & rate images


How can I format text in comments and postings? 

Please add following meta-tags: 
[ b ] bold [ /b ] 
[ i ] italic [ /i ]

How can I include an image within one comment?

Enter your text and add a hash sign followed by the image number.


How can I rate images?

Please click on "Post comment / rate image" and submit your rating. Please wait until the rating has been accepted. You can then close the window.


How long does it take until a comment is displayed?

The comment is displayed instantly after refreshing the page. Please click the link "close and refresh" or "refresh" on the browser. If the comment is not displayed, you have closed the window too early.

Search & find images


How do I find my uploaded images?

You can instantly see the images in the community (when submitted also in this division). Please entder either the image number or the keywords in the search box. In the stock agency, the images are displayed after accepted by our team of editors.


I have more than 1000 pictures. Why is not everything indicated with " other pictures of the photographer "?

For performance reasons the search " other images of the photographer " on 1000 hits is limited. 

However, this is only an approximate value. Since here by the fact that the number of the images on a side is directed after how wide the screen is the results can soak off something.


Why can't I find my image in the stock agency?

After your image has been accepted by our team of editors, it may take up to one week until your image is included in our search algorhythm. Please take great care that you separate the keywords (when uploading) with a comma (,). 
This helps the search engine find the exact search results.

Transfer you remuneration


How do I find out about a sale?

As soon as a customer licences and pays an image, you will be notified by email. Please note: Only after a payment is received by PantherMedia, we will notify you. In case of credit card, PayPal or Firstgate payments, this will take up to one month until PantherMedia receives the money. In case of payment on account, it may take several weeks until a customer pays and you get notified. Go on "Revenue overview" and "Subscription sales" to find the sold images listed.


How do you calculate my subscription payout?

We take the revenue per subscription package and divide it by the downloads in that subscription package. There are 9 different packages: 3 sizes (web, print, printXXL) for each license (standard, corporate, merchandising). At the end of the month when the subscription ends, we calculate the value for each download and payout 50% of the value of that image to the contributor. 

You can see the absolute amount of your subscription payout in your "account overview". To see the individual amounts per image, please go to "Subscription downloads". Currently, we display the images and the sizes, but not the respective license. The amount is calculated correctly for each license, but only summed up in the respective size. 

With the next release of our accounting system, we will display all amounts per size AND per license.

How long does it take until I receive my remuneration?

1. After you have requested your remuneration, we will send you a credit memo on the last business day of the month. 

2. It takes about 0 to 5 working days until you receive your remuneration on your Firstgate account. 

3. Please request this amount at Firstgate. They will transfer your money to your bank account. This may take another 3-5 days. 

Please note: If you have specifies your credit card as your Firstage account, you receive your money with your monthly credit card invoice.


What about transferring my remuneration outside Germany?

Please enter your Bank Identifier Code (BIC) and the International Bank Account Number (IBAN). This transfer is free of charge within Europe. For all other countries, the photographer covers the costs for the transfer of money. There are no costs involved if you choose PayPal or Firstgate as your preferred method of payment.


When and how do I get paid?

This is up to you. You can request your remuneration anytime by clicking on "Payout remuneration". This will be transferred by the end of each calender month. 

There are different mothods of payment: Bank transfer (costs involved outside Europe),PayPal (free),Firstgate (free). 

Please choose the respective method of payment on the page "Payout remuneration". You have to enter your PayPal/Firstgate username or your bank details (if not already saved). 

Every last business day per month, you will receive a credit memo via email. Your remuneration will be transferred within the next 3 to 15 business days. 

Generally, you can only request amounts of 30 Euros or more. If you request amounts less than 30 euros, you can do so by contacting our team. There will be a charge of 5 euros deducted from your remuneration.


Who is covering the transaction costs for transferral of money outside Europe?

The costs for any transferral of money is covered by the photographer. 

Alternatively, choose one of our payment partners PayPal or Firstgate. There are no costs involved, the transferral is free of charge.


Why do I have to enter my bank details?

If you want us to transfer the money onto your bank account, we need your bank details. It is ok if you enter your bank details prior to our first payment. 

Alternatively, if you want us to transfer your remuneration via PayPal or Firstgate, we do not need your bank details, the username at the respective payment partner is sufficient.
